XTermium Download

A Termius alternative, free and open source.

XTermium is a desktop terminal with a session manager: SSH, SFTP and tunnels, and RDP, VNC, telnet, serial, WinRM and BMC consoles beside them, in tabs. Here is what each one is, and how to move over.

What Termius is.

From its own site, termius.com, read on 4 November 2026:

  • An SSH client with apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android.
  • Connections: SSH, SFTP, telnet, mosh, a local terminal and serial, with port forwarding.
  • A free Starter plan, and paid plans (Pro, Team, Business, Enterprise); sync across mobile and desktop comes with the paid plans.

Termius and XTermium, side by side.

The same ten questions, asked of both. Each answer is what the tool’s own pages say, with no scores and no prices of theirs.

Termius’s column is from its own site, termius.com, with its pricing page and its documentation at docs.termius.com, read on 4 November 2026. XTermium’s column comes from its README. “Not mentioned on its site” means the pages read don’t say, not that Termius lacks it.

What XTermium is.

If you use Termius on the desktop, XTermium covers the same ground and adds desktops beside it. SSH, SFTP, telnet, serial and a local shell open in tabs, with local, remote and SOCKS5 tunnels, and RDP, VNC, WinRM and BMC consoles sit in the same sidebar. Split any tabs into panes and type into many at once. Hosts, shared logins, snippets and tunnels stay on your own disk, encrypted with a key in your OS keychain. Import your ~/.ssh/config, and keep your SSH agent and key files as they are. The difference is where it runs and what you pay for. XTermium is a desktop app for Windows, Linux and macOS, with no phone app, and the whole app is free and open source under the Apache License 2.0. Pro is only the hosted part: end-to-end encrypted sync between your computers, and Terminal Co-op.

Moving over from Termius.

Import your ~/.ssh/config, and XTermium uses your SSH agent and key files as they are. Keep each password in a shared login once and let every session pick it.

XTermium is a desktop app: Windows, Linux and macOS, and no phone app. Pro syncs your sessions, logins and tunnels between your computers, end-to-end encrypted; its checkout is in test mode for now.

When to stay with Termius.

Stay with Termius if your work leans on what it does and XTermium doesn’t. It may fit better when:

  • You want the same hosts on your phone. Termius has iOS and Android apps; XTermium is a desktop app.
  • You connect over Mosh. XTermium doesn’t.
  • Your team shares hosts through Termius’s Team or Business plans. XTermium’s Pro is for one person on any number of computers.
  • You rely on its AI-powered autocomplete. XTermium’s AI side is different: agents work through its MCP server and agent tabs.

Free and open source.

XTermium is free and open source under the Apache License 2.0: every connection type, on every OS, on any number of machines. Pro, the one paid plan, is the hosted part: end-to-end encrypted sync between your computers, and Terminal Co-op.

Pro costs €2.99 a month or €29.99 a year, excluding VAT, and its checkout is in test mode for now. Pricing.

Questions about moving from Termius.

Is there an XTermium app for phones?

No. XTermium runs on Windows, Linux and macOS. Pro syncs your sessions, logins and tunnels between your computers, end-to-end encrypted.

Can I bring my Termius hosts over?

XTermium doesn’t read Termius’s vault. Import your ~/.ssh/config, or add hosts to folders in the sidebar; your SSH agent and key files work as they are.

Does XTermium sync between computers?

Yes, with Pro: sessions, folders and workspaces, shared logins, tunnels, snippets, layouts and trusted host keys. Everything is encrypted before it leaves, so the sync server only holds files it can’t read. Pro costs €2.99 a month or €29.99 a year, excluding VAT; checkout is in test mode for now.

Does XTermium do RDP and VNC as well?

Yes. RDP and VNC desktops open as tabs next to your SSH terminals, with telnet, serial, WinRM, BMC consoles and websites beside them, in one window.
